Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) represent a major global health challenge, profoundly affecting individuals, their families, and society. These disorders are characterized by persistent alterations in reward processing, stress responsivity, executive control, and motivation, domains that collectively drive the transition from voluntary use to compulsive drug seeking. SUDs often co-occur with neurodevelopmental and psychiatric conditions, and their severity is frequently exacerbated by environmental stressors, social marginalization, or chronic adversity. The need for a deeper understanding of the neurobiological, psychological, and social mechanisms that contribute to SUD is a priority. This workshop aims to address this challenge by bringing together young researchers and leading scientists to discuss emerging insights into the neurobiological mechanisms underlying SUD and to explore the development of innovative pharmacological treatments.
The conference is primarily, but not exclusively, intended for early-career researchers, who may register and submit their scientific contributions in the form of oral communications or posters by February 28, 2026 via the following link:

For SIF members attending the Monothematic Conference, registration is free of charge. In addition, accommodation, the social dinner, and overnight stay on April 20 (in a double or triple room) will be covered for young, non-tenured SIF members under 38 years of age who present an oral communication or a poster.
The SIF and the Zardi-Gori Foundation each offer two grants, for a total of four
grants, with a value of € 500.00 (five hundred euros) gross each, awarded to the best
Oral Communications and Posters presented at the Monothematic Conference.
These grants are reserved for SIF members under 38 years of age, non-tenured,
and in good standing with their membership fees.
